and remember my dining room . . . .
The first thing I wanted to do was repaint the black buffet and put it back on the other wall (where the picture is). I ordered some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (which seems to be all the rage in blogland right now) and is perfect for me, because it requires no sanding or priming! Color is Old White. The lovely Debbie from DebbieDoos answered a ton of my questions on how to paint this and more importantly how to wax. Thanks Debbie, I couldn't av done it without ya ;-) So here is the buffet now . . . .
and here it is against the actual wall it will stay on . . .
My original thought was to leave the top black, so it stands out more against the cream wall. But I'm not totally convinced. This is where you can help - would you paint the top to match the rest, or leave it black? Here's a better picture of the top . . .
Other things for the room include:
Chandelier - ordered, on back order
Chair slip covers - ordered, being shipped this week
Curtains - need to get a curtain pole first then try curtains I already have from Ikea and buy some faux silk ones from Target to try. I'll be asking your opinions again when I get them ;-)
Orchid - bought from Target (you can see it on the buffet)
Mirror - still looking for one
Bench - not getting one yet, but will keep my eye out for something at a yard sale that I can re-do!
Lamp - using one I have, and will add burlap to the shade this week
Picture - swapped the one I had, for one that was in my bedroom, darker shade so it stands out more on the wall.
Tray - using one I have, just not sure what to put on it yet!
Burlap runner - yes, got this one from Etsy.com - love it.
Rug - not yet, I'd prefer to get one when I get wood floors (one day!)
Here's the before again . . .
and here's the after . . . .
It was hard getting pictures today because the sun was streaming through the blinds. I'll be taking more photos as I finish off the room. Do let me know what you think about the buffet. . . black top, or cream?
Oh, and I forgot to mention, I managed to get those ugly handles off the buffet so I'll be going to look for new ones tomorrow!

It's hard to tell from photos - maybe it is a bit too polished with the chalkboard paint? I think I would either paint it to match, or and it, and stain it a warm wood color to complement the table. I like the changes you've made so far!
Well well you did it! I love how it turned out. What about the knobs? Are you getting new ones? I like that the top is different. I would get some pretty knobs to tie in your colors from the picture above. Have you considered getting some slip covers for your chairs? I think the style and color of your set is somewhat throwing me off with the buffet. You somehow need to tie that all in. Even with chair pads. What kind of curtains did you get? I know this is just the beginning stages so it is hard to get a feel. Bottom line you did a great job on the piece. You could always paint it back to solid black if you did not like the way the entire piece looks the old white.
I like the top black. I agree with Debbie on getting some slip covers for your chairs. I love where you room is headed.
Hi Denise, that looks really nice. I think the black top is a nice contrast. Mabye a black vase or low bowl on the kitchen table and flower s to match the picture? Have a nice week and try to visit when you can and let the girls know what you are doing. Hugs
Your dining room is looking good! I think I would leave the top black. We are getting ready to re-do our dining room too. So far only a new light fixture installed but that alone made a huge difference. I bought some painter's tape this weekend to start taping the room off thinking that would force me to finally pick a wall color! Looking forward to see what else you do with it.
I have the slip covers ordered! It's in the list in the post:-)
My vote is to leave the top black! That turned out awesome!!
What a great transformation!
Denise you've got a great start in there and it's looking good! Send some of that decorating motivation my way would ya?!
Hi Denise, I like what you have done so far in your dinning room. I agree that the slip covers are going to make a big impact in the room. Just an idea but, have you thought about painting the table to match the hutch? or maybe paint it black.
Hi Olga, My hubby would kill me if I painted the table!! I think the slip covers and curtains will help a lot.
Wow! The room is looking gorgeous. I'm loving your buffet painted and I think the black top makes it unique. The inspiration board looks great. I can't wait to see the entire thing finished.
You did a great job, Denise! I love the Old White ... love that you left the top in its natural state ... it adds even *that* much more character to your lovely piece. Looking forward to seeing what else you do!
