The Farming Den

I thought about making a new website so I can journal about what's growing in the yard and how things are coming along. But then I thought if that's my 'daily news' and most people would want to read it here instead of having to click on yet another site, I'd just keep things as is and give you some regular updates probably each week.

So this week down 'on the farm' we've been watching the seeds sprouting and watching the aphids gather and start eating the life out of them! Much to Jason's surprise, those little 'buggers' are just running rampant out there! We have some stuff to spray on them, and the other night we simply took a bottle of soapy liquid out there and sprayed too. No doubt it will be an ongoing battle, but hopefully the plants will win in the end.

On Sunday (mothers day here) Jason went out with Kristen while I rested still, and they bought some ladybugs. You release them in to your yard in the hopes that they stick around and eat the aphids. Sunday evening we let the first bag go (we have 3 bags total). There are about 1500 ladybugs in each little bag. I took some pictures, but I also tried out the video so I'm gonna see if I can post that for you first.

Radishes are coming up quickly, and they already need thinning out.

These are Scarlet Runner Beans and will grow up a trellis that Jason has made.

Kristen with 'Petey'! For some reason she's trying to name all the ladybugs!

Spreading a little 'ladybug' love!

Oh my goodness, how cute that Kiki is trying to name the lady bugs! I got bit by one of the little "buggers" in California - Doug was laughing at me as I screamed and ran out of the picture shot - lol

I'll have to show Doug the video so he gets his Kiki fix until we see y'all ;-)

Glad you're feeling a little better today!!

Hugs xo

Kiki naming the ladybugs is the cutest thing. She's so sweet Denise.

Hey sweets,
you sound like you're feeling better, and how cute showing Kiki and all those lady bugs. Lets hope they do the trick. Your new seedlings are doing great, all sprouting and on their way. That must be very encouraging for you. You found a great background here too...clever you!

Hope each new day sees you feeling even better. Lots of love 'n hugs, me xx

Hi Denise, I hope you're feeling better. The ladybugs are cute & Kristen is even cuter. I forgot you had a British accent. I had no idea you could buy ladybugs, it's a great idea. Take it easy & have a great week, hugs

your garden is coming along nicely Denise. I love the ladybird idea. We have a ladybird 'hotel' that Bill made, it's meant to be the perfect place to encourage them to live and stay in the garden.

Nice to hear your accent. I could tell you've been living in the US for a long time though, you have an American twang. But I could still tell you were British.

have a lovely week. hope you are feeling better now.

Hi Denise! I've heard that about ladybugs and it's a lot safer than pesticides! Funny about Kiki trying to name them! Wonder if she counted spots to tell them apart? :) (((Hugz)))

Hi There,

Wow, a farm in the backyard and online. What did you name the online farm? Maybe you could use that name too. It is hard for me to name things. Love the ladybugs. Hope you are feeling a lot better now. HUGS
