What to blog about. . . . . .

. . . . .when there's nothing to blog about?! The week is going by pretty quickly, but I seriously haven't been doing anything, so there seems very little to make a post about. I just got back from Bible Study this morning, and I thought I'd make a quick post 'about nothing', just let you know I'm still around.

Yesterday was very windy here, I mean VERY windy - the lawn chairs ended up in the middle of the back yard at one point! They easily get swept off the patio in high winds. I spent the whole day at home and didn't talk to a soul (except Kristen in the morning) until I went to pick Kristen up at school, then it was just the usual "hi, how are you" to some of the moms there. I pottered around in the house alternating between housework and knitting and in the evening just sat and watched American Idol. It couldn't have been a more quiet day, I won't call it boring, because it wasn't. It's nice to not have to do much some days. As nice as it is though, I look forward to Friday when Jason get's home and I feel like our days will get back to normal, because honestly, sitting on your own all day and all night is 'not normal' - for me anyway.

I don't want my posts to get too boring so I'll just make them short and sweet while my week is quiet. Nuff said - bye for now!

A Quiet Week!

Jason left yesterday for Denver! He'll be there until Friday and arrives home late, around midnight. Kristen is at school and the house is very quiet! I just got back from running a couple of errands and I plan on getting some 'gift' knitting done ;-)

For some reason the house doesn't seem to get as messy when there's only one adult (meaning me!) and child in it. So, my kitchen is tidy, laundry is on, groceries are in (went this morning after dropping Kristen off at school) so I'm gonna knit for an hour and not feel guilty about it.

There's really not much else for me to blog about, so I'll make this a very small post. Hopefully I will have plenty of time later to do some blog visits.

Take one pair of comfortable fleecy p.j's (preferably with cute scotty dogs in pink sweaters!). . . . .

. . . . add in a roaring fire, that is so warm and toasty you just can't tear yourself away from it. . .

. . . . and sprinkle with a few good reads :-)

Yes, I'm on my own again tonight, Jason and Kristen have just left to go to his friends again. I didn't get to mention this week that Jason bought a new toy to play with - he's taken it over to his friend's house tonight. It's called Rock Band and you play it on Xbox! I played with it a little last weekend but not as much as Jason! Honestly, I'd rather be knitting. But Jason loves these games. It's a bit like Guitar Hero, but Rock Band has a set of drums and a microphone too. It's rather funny, because if you don't play too well you start losing 'fans' or you get booed off stage. And if you play well, you get better venues to play at, more fans more money etc!

So I get to have a lovely night on my own again, and THIS time I have my sushi in the fridge for dinner, and hopefully I picked a better movie to watch! I went to Blockbuster and had a hard time finding anything I fancied watching. There doesn't seem much out there right now that I'd care to see. I ended up with a romantic comedy starring Ben Stiller, called The Heartbreak Kid. Anyone seen it? And if anyone can recommend a good girlie movie that I can get out for next time let me know.

I'm off to have sushi and knit a little before I put the movie on. Hope you all enjoy your Friday night!

Library Work!

I'm off to the church library this morning to do my 2 hours. Jean, the library director won't be there but she's left me a few things to do for her on the computer, entering some data etc. That should make the time pass quickly, plus I will have my knitting with me as a stand by, should I get that done pretty quickly.

I'm making a concerted effort today to eat better. I've been doing ok lately, but this week the snack attacks have been hitting and on Tuesday night while watching American Idol I had two glasses of wine and some Cheetos! Bad, bad, bad! That's not the kind of snacking habit I want to get back in to. Today at the store I picked up some 100 calorie packs of popcorn. They are 'mini' bags you pop in the microwave. I need small bags like this because if I did a large bag I never can stop if there is a lot in the bowl. You know how it is - if you don't measure your portions, it's very easy to over-indulge in these things.

Tonight is book club, our first meeting of the year. We read Water For Elephants, and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the discussion and seeing my book club friends, which I haven't seen since before Christmas.

Well this must be a quick post, as I have to dash to get ready and out to the church. Hope you're all enjoying your week so far - and yay, it's Friday tomorrow :-) Gotta love Friday!

Now you see it. . . . . . now you don't!

This is a picture of the large entertainment center we have had since we moved to the states nearly 10 years ago. We haven't really used it for the past five years since we bought our first big screen tv, which had a whopping 65" screen.

When we moved to Texas and built our custom home we really had no where to put this and it ended up being divided in to it's 5 parts (center unit, 2 side units, and 2 end corner units) around different parts of the house. When we moved in to this new house last year, it was all put back together, as you see it here, and was put upstairs in the game room. And since this time last year, I have been wanting to get rid of it so I could re-organize our game room and make it fully functional, with new bookshelves and a new sofa etc.

So last weekend, I finally got around to putting this 'huge thing' on Craig's List. I wasn't really after money for it, I would just be happy to put it on there for free, if someone was willing to come and take it away. But with the thought that if I said 'free' people might think there was a catch, I advertised it for $100. Within minutes the phone started ringing - long story short a lady called and asked if I would take $60 for it because they had just lost all their furniture in an apartment fire! I told her if she could pick it up the next day (Sunday), she could have it for $50!!

Long story short, I took NO money at all for this and was just thankful that the lady and her husband had taken it out of my house!

The lady called me again the next day. She wanted to thank me again for giving her the furniture. She also offered to clean my house if I needed her to! And said her husband worked on cars, so if we ever had car trouble to give them a call. Of course I didn't need her to do any of that, but I said I appreciated her kind offer. What came to mind was "Pay It Forward - help someone else" And in doing so, share the joy of 'giving to others'. Because honestly, there's no better feeling :-)

So, ideas are forming for my next project. I can begin to start thinking of paint colors for the game room and a trip to Ikea will be coming soon to buy book cases for the blank wall you see in the picture above.

Grey and Foggy Day!

Well goodness, I better make a post or you'll be all wondering where I've gone. I swear I don't know where the hours go each day but before I know it, Kristen is heading to bed and I'm trying to relax for an hour before my own early bedtime.

Yesterday seemed to go by in a blur. Kristen was off school and we didn't do much other than pop out to Walmart in the morning. I headed to the library too but then realized on the way there that it would be closed because of 'Martin Luther King Day'!

Kristen played with Connor for most of the day once we got home. They alternate between our house and his. I did a little house work and laundry and that was about it. Before I knew it, it was 5.15pm and Jason was home from work. I made quesadillas for dinner with a salad and that was another day over.

I've been to the gym this morning, then went for a few groceries. Now I'm gonna have a sandwich for lunch and do my bible study. I hope to get back in to posting regularly this week. I really need to try and post at night and just save it to draft until the next morning!

Hopefully I'll have a more interesting posts next time.

A Bright and Sunny Day!

I'm on my laptop so I can't add any pictures from here. Just wanted to jump on quickly this morning and make a post, or there will be a 3 or 4 day gap if I don't.

Jason took Kristen over to his friend's house last night. They have a 4 yr old little boy who loves to play with her and she likes to play with him too (and all his toys!). I never go with them cos it means I get a nice quiet 'me' night. If I'd known he was going I would have gotten myself some sushi for dinner but it was still cold and, wet outside and I didn't fancy the drive to the store. I just had some cheese and crackers with a glass of wine instead.

Jason had ordered the movie 'Hairspray' from Blockbuster for me and said he would watch it with me! Despite it being a musical (which he normally hates). But I told him last night that I would just watch it myself if he wasn't too bothered about seeing it, so he said yes ok. OMG!!! I am so glad I didn't make him watch it - actually I don't think he would have lasted more than 5 minutes. I had heard it was a pretty good movie! I thought it was TERRIBLE.... REALLY REALLY TERRIBLE. I ended up fast-forwarding some of the songs, they just seemed to go on forever, and none of them were very catchy! The only one I'd heard before was the last song. Most of the time during the movie all I kept thinking was "that's John Travolta - dressed as a woman!!" And he was trying to do a 'baltimorian' accent I think, which sounded ridiculous. Has anyone else seen the movie? What did you think of it?

This morning we were going to go to Kristen's school (me and Kristen) to a QUEST meeting about 'independent study'. There are two times 9.30-11.30 and 1.30-3.30. I told Kristen we'd go to the early one and get it over with, then we'd have the day free to ourselves. BUT. . . . she never comes home until late when they go to Jason's friends, they came in at midnight! And it's now 8.30am and she's still sleeping. I figured as much, so I guess we're going to the 1.30 meeting.

That's all that's on my agenda today. I've been knitting like crazy as usual so I'll be doing more of that this afternoon ;-)
