There was a time when I didn’t like wine. Back in my early twenties when I was first married and started hosting dinner parties with my other ‘couples’ friends I wanted to start drinking wine along with the rest of them. I was told to start with a sweet German wine like Liebraumilch or a Reisling. I did, and I got rather used to the taste. Over the years I tried many other white wines, went to fancy dinner parties, hosted more fancy dinner parties . . . it was a whole lotta fun.
Over time the dinner parties stopped… I eventually divorced in my early 30’s, stayed single for a couple of years then found my ‘dream guy’, moved to the States - and the rest as they say is history ;-)
What I’m getting at really is that I’ve drank wine for many years now ;-) but not really expanded my knowledge or my taste buds for that matter, until . . . . well, until just a couple of weeks ago (not so much the knowledge part yet but the tasting part).
Over the past year or so Cheryl (my neighbor) and I have had our own little wine tasting nights but just a couple of weeks ago we both went to a local Winery for their monthly taste testing night. It was only for an hour but was such a fun night. We tasted 6 wines and had our own individual plates with a small selection of meats and cheese. Since that night I’ve wanted to try more different wines. One thing I just discovered this week is that I actually can drink a red wine. I’ve never liked them, or so I thought.
Anyway, I could go on and on here but I’ll leave more to tell in other posts about wine (because yes, I’ll be talking more about them now). What I wanted to post about today was my new ‘Wine Station’ . . . inspired by the lovely Becca who just this week showed pictures of her Fall decor and also of her lovely Wine Tasting Bar. Here’s a picture of it (I’m sure Becca won’t mind me sharing it with you) ;-)
It was love at first sight when I saw this, honestly I think I swooned! You can CLICK HERE and go see more lovely photos at Becca’s Blog - Adventures In Decorating.
Of course as soon as I saw it I said “I want one too”! I told Becca I loved her idea and wanted to make my own wine station, and she said ‘go for it’! So I did. . . .
As always, using what I had (mostly) here is the start of my own little tasting station.
The one thing I didn’t have was the grapes and cheese. So I popped up to Hobby Lobby, grabbed a bunch and a fake wedge of cheese and came home to put it all together.
It’s not exactly how I want it yet, for starters there needs to be more wine, if you notice the rack is totally empty! I’d also like to make a sign to hang on the back of the tiles. Because I can’t stencil like Becca did I thought about getting a long frame and printing the words on it. That might work. I’ll also keep my eye out for some ‘wine’ signs’. The station is pretty small, so I won’t be able to add too much. What would really be nice is a wine fridge right next to this :) Then I could add some other accessories on top of it, like a free standing wine opener.
Hmmm, guess I should start working on my Christmas wish list :)
How bout you, what’s your poison?!!

Adorable, I love what you've done! =) Hmm, I may have to come up with a wine station of my own too! Hugs, Liz
This looks terrific! well done! I am not a huge wine lover, but I do enjoy a glass of Riesling or Pinot Grigio once in a while.
In other news - thanks for the comment earlier. She did it! Reluctantly, unwillingly, and then she started to get her groove back. She did it!
Wine is my drink of choice, too and I love Pinot Grigio, especially the Barefoot brand.
I like the idea of a little wine tasting area. The theme of my kitchen is sort of wine as my back splash has wine labels handpainted on various tiles!!

Wonderful idea! I like the idea of having a little wine tasting area:) Very nice!
Blessings,
Sandra
I think a wine tasting area is a great idea if you have the counter space! I have wine racks in my sidebar in my kitchen eating area and it seems I never get it full of wine :)
I love wine tasting and Oregon is famous for their Pinot Gris. Yummy. We have some wonderful local wineries, close to where I live. Hubby and I go wine tasting about once a year and it's always fun to see, taste and be happy viewing the vineyards.
I love wine too. I drink mostly water, but at my evening meal I love a glass of wine. Pinot Grigio is my favorite. Ecco Domani is one of my favorite brands. I love your wine tasting area. What a great idea. Carla
I love your wine station, Denise! What a good idea--beautiful and sophisticated but very simple.
I love wine. I never drank wine until I was about 30, when I grew to love the Italian sparkling wines. From there to other whites. . . then reds. For awhile I didn't like anything but very robust reds. Now I'm back to drinking mostly white wine, because lately red wines have given me a headache. That's too bad, because I know red wines contain more of the substance that's so good for heart health. Oh, well, I figure a nice relaxing glass of wine is really good for my heart anyway!
I've always believed that getting drunk is not right--the Bible teaches that God hates drunkenness--but I used to also believe that drinking was wrong because it was harmful to your body, might be a bad example to others, blah blah blah. Boy, have my opinions changed over the years, thank God! :)
Can I come over and sit on your comfy front porch and have a glass of wine with you? :)
This past weekend, my hubby and I hosted a Taste of Wine and Murder party. Oh my goodness.. we had SOOO much fun!
All our friends brought their favorite wine and we had a blast acting out the parts!!
Love the decor.. you did a great job!
Hi Denise,
What a great idea! You always decorate so beautifully.
Hope you are having a cozy evening.
love and hugs
I think what you've done is really nice! I like it ;)
Isn't it fun to decorate and make it just how you want...I love doing that.
In our house, I sort of have a mixture of stuff...and I'm pretty happy with how it goes.
One of my favorite things to do is go to model homes, and get ideas from those...then do them in my house for much less. It's so fun for me!
Have a great day!
PS--I really enjoy your blog, and am so glad I found it!
Denise this looks fabulous! You really created a useful and precious focal point in your kitchen. Love it all.
Happy Fall! ~Melissa ;)
Hi Denise, I am finally trying to blog again. I met Tammy at a winery that my sister worked at when we were doing a Bible study. I don't drink often, but I prefer the sweet wines.
This is a great idea and perfect for you:) I love the fake cheese and grapes. They are cute. Now you will have to have a tasting party at your house:)
Hi Denise! I love wine but like you, not crazy about the reds. The only red I have found I like is Sangria, a very cheap wine! I have fake grapes and now I will have to find some fake cheese :D
Big hugs!
