Summer fruits. . . . .

One of the best things I love about Summer is the wonderful fresh fruit that becomes available. I know we can buy most fruits all year round these days , but there's certain times of the year they just taste better because they are more in season and not 'force grown'. Strawberries are a good example. When I lived in England you never saw strawberries in the stores in winter, but come spring and summer the market stalls and grocery stores started overflowing with them, and ooooooh they were SO sweet and juicy (as I know Sadie can attest to). They used to be my all time favorite fruit, until I moved to the US! I hate to say it, but even in summertime the strawberries just don't seem to taste as sweet as I think they should. But all that aside, I still love to eat lots of fresh fruit at this time of year.

And so, in order to have everyone else (by which I mean J and K!) eat more of it I put out a bowl of fruit while we were eating dinner last night. And here it is. . . . .

I know many of you will have tried this - scoop out a melon using a melon baller and use it as the basket then add the melon and other fruits back in to it. I must confess I don't know if I've actually ever done this, and if I have it's been years since. I showed this to Kristen and her eyes lit up :-) As you know she loves watermelon, it's her favorite fruit actually. But she's never had it as little balls. And the orange? well usually I will cut slices and then cut the slice in to quarters, but all she's done recently (all she's ever done, cos it's not a fruit she cares for) is squeeze the flesh between her teeth to get the juice out. Well last night I cut the orange like you see the chefs on tv do it. You know, where you cut away all the skin and white pith, then you insert your knife in between the membrane so you have no skin on the segment at all - new discovery, that's how to get Kristen to eat the orange flesh! She loved it..... and I have to say one more thing, Jason was actually diving in to the bowl too and said "just seeing it made him want to eat it". And he's not such a big fruit eater either! I know they say "you eat with your eyes" and it was certainly true in this case.

We had huge thunderstorms here last night and a tornado watch was in effect. There's no sunshine today (yet) but it's still forecast to be at least 85. I'd just like to say thank you to Sadie for sharing a sweet summer graphic (ooh and that's another fruit I love. . . fresh pineapple!)

Hi Denise, I love fruit too and eat it fresh when I can. Strawberries are my favorite then grapes. This looks good and I would of dove into it too. Glad K and J loved it. The days have been dreary with off and on rain here and some thunder and lightening, but no tornado's, but they've been a problem in other areas of Ok. love and ~hugs~

Hi Denise,
I'm with you on the fresh fruit thing, only here, our tomatoes are so tasteless these days too. It seems that everything is grown for appearance not taste. We get a lot of out of season fruit from the USA, so although we only grow cherries in summer we can get them (for a price) in June, July, August (our winter months). I do love fruit and eat apples every day. At the moment "Pink Lady" apples are amazing. Do you get them there?

Oh boy, I wish Blogger would hurry up and look at my blog so they can see it's not a spam site. I wonder why I got singled out when all our blogging buds have lots of links to their blogging buds, but we sure are not spamming anyone. My blog has been a pain in the butt this week. Maybe it would just be easier to have one as part of my website, then I can have as many links to friends and no-one can say a thing. What's the use of a blog without links.

Great Kiki is eating your delicious fruit....great job.

Have a great weekend. Are you still on Tornado watch? Hope all is OK. Wish my kids were moving to Austin instead of Detroit!

Hi Denise! Fresh fruit and veggies are my favorite thing about spring and summer. I have to agree with Kristen...watermelon is the best! We had huge storms Wednesday and early Thursday morning. Wishing you a wonderful sunny Friday. ((BIG HUGS))

ooh, thank you for using these graphics! I think you are the first to do so, you should win a prize! :O)

Don't worry, I am still the Anti-Summer, just makes life more bearable to try and look at the nice things, and I do like the things on my list. :O) But I'll never be able to shout from the rooftops that I love summer!

Absolutely agree with you about the fruit, especially the British Straws. They're probably my favourite fruit (and cherries), and I'm delighted that humbug loves her strawbs as much as her mama! Aha, so now you know why your family don't eat much fruit, it's just the hassle of peeling/cutting and slicing. Can see why, it's so much more tempting just to pick at a pre prepared dish of fruit (or watermelon dish of fruit!)

Time to get on. We have had some rain! Yey! xxxx

Hi Denise! Your fruit bowl looks yummy. I, too, love the summer fruits and am so happy that soon we will have more variety at (I hope!!) better prices. Have a fantastic weekend sweetie. Big hugs!

I love your food posts. LOL I also loved your Mother's Day pictures. How sweet is that??? You haven't aged a bit. I read even further about your book club. I can't believe it either. Sometimes you think you know people, then something happens like this and you wondered if you ever knew them like you thought. Very Sad! Are you going to continue with the original group?

By the way, if you want you can have my 100 degree heat today. LOL Have a great weekend hun.

Love,
Kacy

Denise: Thanks for the visit to my blog. About crocheting:
I started crocheting in about
1975-6. I don't remember what I started with but I had to tear it out several times, each time I reached a point where I couldn't understand the directions. I would put it down, go away from it a day or two and probably muddle thru it in my mind while I was doing other things. Still, I kept going back determined to understand. All at once, I took a breath (in my mind) at a different place in the pattern, which caused a comma in the place where I should have recognized a change in the pattern and it all fell together. Don't give up. From the look of your picture, you have a lot of years to go. Keep on keeping on. Crocheting is a "vacation" from knitting. It is faster, more forgiving and much more fun than knitting but I like the look of knitted garmets best.
