I was out and about this morning running some errands and needed to take curtains back to Linens and Things (that I had gotten to try for the bathroom), but it was a few minutes before 10am and they weren't open yet. So I popped next door to TJ Max. Usually I don't go in the shop, the one here just seems to have it's shelves packed with odds and ends it's almost like a yard sale! I didn't go in for anything particular, I just needed to wait a few minutes for the other store to open, but as I wandered the household aisles I remembered what Sadie had said about a teapot and lo and behold I saw one of those little cup and pots sitting on the shelf. It was a pretty little thing with red poppies on it and it was $12.99. Not a bad price really, but considering I didn't even know if I would like having 'real afternoon tea' I wasn't in a hurry to purchase it. I'm glad I didn't for just around the corner on another shelf was the little cup and pot you see in my picture. You're probably wondering where the teapot lid is? Well it isn't there. . . . and that's why the little set cost only $1 (yes that's about 50p Sadie!). I don't mind spending a dollar, and the way I look at it if it's just me wanting to drink a cup of tea (or two) I won't really miss the lid, after all it's not like I need to keep the whole pot hot.
So, here is a bigger picture of the pot with the cup under it, along with some other goodies I bought later in World Market.

After just trying it on it's own I decided to try it with milk. . . .

Now about those scones! My Mam used to make some lovely scones and I have a recipe book that tells me how to make them (the ones that she did) but for today I wanted something quick, so I picked up the scone mix in World Market. Mix with 3/4 cup of water and pop them in the oven, in 15 minutes they were done.
Let's see a larger picture of them too . . . .

I doubt I'll find time every day to have my little tea party, but I do plan on trying to do it at least 2 or 3 times a week. And perhaps you'll join me. Oooh, I think I'm going to like tea parties!

Oh. You brought a tear to my eye! Sniff sniff. This is a wonderful moment.
How pretty and appealing your tea set and scones are. Believe me after a tough day afternoon tea will become a welcome ritual in your life.
Is it almost time to start preparing for our Christmas cake yet?
I'll be popping over for a fruit scone and some tea tomorrow afternoon ok?
You're inspiring me again. I will have to dig out my tea things and see what I can do too. It will be really special when you don't have the heat and have cooler days. There are pumpkin scones to be had. :-) HUGS
welcome to my world! Ha ha ha! Now you can see why I have this as 'my treat', because even though it doesn't take much effort at all, it really is a little bit of luxury each day.
I love the tea-pot and cup set, and it's perfect. I slightly disagree about the lid, as I think you need it to make a decent brew, but hey, if you are happy and for the price it cost, who cares?! You might have a spare lid kicking around somewhere, that would do. A slice of lemon would be perfect with a cup of the Earl. I have milk and one in my tea (though the one is no longer a sugar cube, but a sweetener). I'm a traditional girl at heart!
jammie dodgers and penguins. Yes, I am sure no one else has a clue what you're on about! ;o)
lovely and rainy here today. I'll tell some of the rain to go over to you. :O)
Hope your mam continues to get better. Have a lovely weekend, and lots of love xxxx
(p.s tea and cake photo from me tomorrow!!)
Hi Denise! I have a one cup pot like that. Jessica was given it as a teacher present and she passed it on to me. Scones taste perfect with tea and I think any cookie is great with tea, too. World Market is probably the same as Cost Plus. They do have good teas there. Enjoy! (((Hugz)))
Love the new teapot D! And YAY!! Earl Grey tea to boot!! I didn't like tea with milk and sugar in it either and like you thought I didn't like tea. I tried it again in my mid 20's without anything in it and LOVED it so now when people ask, I tell them I like my tea "naked" - I get a few funny looks but oh well - hee hee.
Glad you're enjoying your treat and yay that you found your Cadbury Flakes... I looked for them up here to bring down to you but couldn't find any.
I'm off to make myself a cuppa tea now... I'll be thinking of you as I sip!
Hugs xo
Hi Denise, Thank you so much for thinking about me and my family during Hurricane Gustav. We were very lucky this time and we have no damage to my house nor did we flood. Just had a mess to clean up outside with tons of leaves and tree branches. Enjoyed my visit with you tonight and I will be back. (((hugs)))
Ciao Denise, lovely teapot and cup set! :) I am a big tea lover but I do not like it with milk at all! Twinings teas are my fave, esp. Earl Grey. With a slice of lemon right now that I have a cold ;) Happy weekend.
Hi Denise,
Hope you won't mind me visiting but I wondered how you'd got on in your quest for tea! I'm not a great tea drinker myself, preferring a very fattening latte but there are definitely times in the day when nothing else will do! First thing in the morning and then around 3pm if I'm not at work :o)
Have to say, though, that the thing that made me want to make a comment (after loitering here occasionally) was seeing the book you have placed next to your cuppa lower down! One of my all time favourite books, I absolutely love the way the story and the mystery of it all gradually unfolds. Perfect for a cosy afternoon with a cup of tea! It's reminded me to go and find out if Ms Setterfield has written anything since, I hope she has!
Hugs, Nikki
