Last week seemed to fly by in a blur and I felt like I was running here there and everywhere, but basically doing nothing, so this week I want to make a concerted effort to stay home. I find the days seem longer when I come straight home from dropping Kristen off at school and don't go out again until 2pm to pick her up. Plus it will give me more time to catch up with blog visits and perhaps be able to blog more too.
As I mentioned last week I had book club at my house on Thursday evening. The book we read, which was The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, was set in Yorkshire England. We sometimes try to do food/snacks that go along with the book or the theme so I came up with the idea of having a 'Yorkshire tea party'. We didn't actually drink tea (we usually all like to have a glass of wine) but I got out my 'English' cook book and tried my hand at making my own scones and I made a little 'cake' that we call Maids of Honor(which were actually mentioned in the book). I'm happy to say both turned out very well, so much so that the ladies wanted me to email them the recipes ;-)
Here's a picture I managed to take of the scones. They were of course served with jam and fresh cream but I didn't manage to get a pic of one 'dressed' and ready to eat!

Here are the Maids of Honor (with Cadbury's chocolate fingers in the background).

And this is the table nearly fully set, I hadn't yet put the sandwiches out and the empty plate you see was for the 'English' cheddar cheese and the Wensleydale with cranberries cheese, which was a huge hit with everyone. I made small dainty sandwiches filled with chicken salad, salmon/mayo and cream cheese and cucumber.

All in all a very fun evening and if I say so myself, delicious food. Wish you could have been there!

well that sounds like the most perfect food to have eaten! And it looks like a lovely spread. Anyway, if you have wine (really it should be champagne), it's called a Royal Tea :O) fact!
I love your bathroom, the splashes of red are a really nice touch and does make it look cosy. You have done a lovely job with it.
Will ask Bill to look out for SK this week. Seems ages ago since I sent it to you,but when I was in the supermarket last week, I noticed it was still the same one.
got to go. Little one is up and awake now. xxx
p.s am impressed you had Cadbury fingers on your table. Did they go down well? I can scoff a whole packet when I get going! ha ha ha. I'm such a piglet. xx
What a fantastic tea, your scones look perfect, everything looks so yummy & perfectly English. I hope you send these photos to your family in UK, they must be very proud of you. I used to bake English scones from time to time but haven't since we moved here. Your book club will want to come back more often. Did you decide on a new book yet? I hope your week is starting well & that it's cooling down a bit in your area too. It's been cooler here lately which is lovely. Hugs
Hello Denise Your tea time spread looks fantastic - I'm not averse to a glass of wine instead of tea myself ;) I loved your beach photos at the bottom of the page - I knew it was the English Seaside the minute I saw it - unmistakeable. Glad you had a nice day, there have been so few this summer. Have a good week xxx
Wish I could've been there, too. That's such a neat idea to take ideas from the book you've read for a party theme. I love all the things that go with a tea... including the tea but I can appreciate that wine would be more fun for an evening get-together! (((Hugz)))
I'm so envious D! I wanna come to a tea party with you!! Your scones looked perfect and those little cakes look delish too!!
Glad it all worked out beautifully for you Sweetie!
Have a GREAT day xo
Hugs
