Wow, is it Friday already? And I haven't posted since Tuesday? We haven't been up to much this week which is why I haven't posted. What is there to post about when you spend most of your days each week doing the same thing.... laundry, grocery shopping, trips to the pool, piano lesson, more laundry! Some days I just can't think of what to write about, so I spend my computer time visiting other blogs and surfing sites I'm interested in.
Right now I'm very interested in 'frugal' blogs :-) Jason and I have started reading through the Dave Ramsey 'Total Money Makeover' book. I actually sit and read out loud to Jason, something I've never EVER done! It helps (as the book says) for both spouses to be on the same page and want the same thing when it comes to start seriously planning your finances. We are very blessed and have always been able to pay our bills and have money left over for spending, but because of that we have never really sat down and planned a budget together. As I said before we have just bought what we want when we want, whether we had the money for it or not. If we didn't have quite enough money we would just put it on the credit card and pay it off over the next couple of months. We hope to change all that pretty soon :-)
One great blog I found this week is LifeasMom.com, and today is 'Frugal Friday' I'm not participating this week (I may do later, if I have anything 'frugal' worth sharing!) but I'm enjoying visiting all the links from other bloggers that are taking steps to save and spend money more wisely.
So, changing the subject somewhat this week I've been busy finishing off a project I started a couple of weeks ago - a while ago I shared photos of our game room which I'd just finished off (sort of, I'm still wanting to add pictures to the walls and paint a little bit more at the top of the stairs) remember this picture? . . . .

It was ok for a while, but I recently got the idea to paint it cream, then add a glaze to it to get a worn 'brown' look to it. I painted it a 'milk white' then with a sponge brush applied a glaze (Valspar Mocha) and wiped it off with a cloth. This is what I ended up with. . . .

That looks gorgeous Denise! I think I would switch them around. Sounds great!
Have a wonderful weekend.

I have not posted much lately either. I think with both girls home for the summer time just gets away from me. I love what you have done with the table, and I am with you on the taller tables. I have short legs and I just can't get comfortable in them. Having a table in the gameroom is a great idea though. It is always nice to have a flat surface for game playing. Have a great weekend. Carla
Oh I love the table with the cream paint on it. I think the bar height table would be perfect for the family room. Hope you get to change the tables around. Hugs, Marty
The table looks fabulous!! Yes, maybe the bar height table would be better switched with this one.
I do the budget around here and I'm not all that great at it...let's just say that I don't always save for a rainy day!! Good luck with your plan.

looks so much better, but then you know I am fond of creamy painted furniture ;o)
I'm with you. I don't 'do' bar stools either. We have one in the garage, and as far as I'm concered that's the best place for it. It's not coming in my house!
I'm extremely lucky to be married to the man I'm married to. I'm rubbish with money. When I worked and got paid, I'd have mony on payday and be spent out by the following day. And let's not talk about credit cards and the debt I ran up with those. They took several years to pay off and get rid of.
Bill is the opposite. He plans for the future, pays off his one and only credit card each month, we stick to a weekly budget, and save for things. We have a 'slush fund' for unforseen things, like unexpected bills etc. He is so super organised when it comes to money, and he's made me better. I now have no credit cards (only debit cards which the same as using cash), and no debt. I only spend what I have and if we want to do something - like buy new furniture or makeover the shower room - then it's save first, buy later. It makes life a whole lot easier.
With weekly shop I have to forward plan or I'd buy a load of rubbish. I hate to throw out unused food so I buy only what I know we'll use, and if I have coupons I will use those too. Something I NEVER thought I'd do. But, every little helps. I even stopped Bill from buying sandwiches from the sandwich lady at work, and make him a packed lunch every day instead. That has saved him a fortune each week.
So good luck with your frugal ways. Once you get into it, it can be fun to 'trim off the fat' as it were :O)
have a lovely weekend xx
The color on that table turned out so nice. Nice job! I think I would switch them out too. It would be nice to have a game table. I like listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio when I am driving. Such great common sense. Luckily my husband and I think a alike when it comes to money issues...some of the things I hear people say on his radio show makes my jaw drop!
Love what you did with the table! I think changing the tables around makes perfect sense! Enjoy your weekend! :)
Your project turned out great! I have painting, spraying, and doing all kinds of neat things. No time to post about them all though!
I love Dave Ramsey. We have to get back on track with a budget, too.
Happy Saturday!
I think it looks great! And I would definitely switch out the tables - at my height, bar stools are a challenge and I feel like a big baby with my feet swinging below me. Good for you for planning together. Let me know what you think of the book when you are done. We do pretty much the same thing, except I don't buy things if I don't have the money, but I am also not really saving either.
Thanks for your good wishes for Katie, and let me know how your daughter likes riding!
Looks like you are busy...the table looks great, thats a lot of work too..great job! :D

At only 5' tall I really don't feel comfortable in those tall chairs, not that my feet touch the ground in a regular chair either lol.
I am surprised that you managed to cover that black with the white. It looks great.
Denise, the table looks great. Terrific job!
Good luck on the budget. My husband and I have been married for 35 years this August. We started out on a budget and lived within our budget for the first 25 years of our marriage. Have to say that in the last 10 years we've relaxed a bit about actually making a budget, but we still make an effort to spend wisely. :-)
You did a great job on the table. I painted mine 2 years ago and never regretted it. I also do the Dave Ramsey Plan! Good luck..
Terrific table transformation!
Victoria
I really like your table with the lighter color. I think I would rather have the bar height set in the game room, too...I vote to switch them!
I love the lighter color and switch your tables...life is about being happy and comfortable!!!
Great job on the table!!! I like my feet on the floor when I sit in a chair....just can't get relaxed on a bar stool.
Katherine S.
amazingly much better, well done!
Your table turned out great Denise! We did our's last summer, very similar and we love it!
We are all about the frugal over here too!
HAGD,
Cindy
Your table looks great, I have several pieces I would like to get painted. I like the minwax idea also. Thanks for sharing.
Looks great...I even liked how you painted the top black! Well done
Beautiful. I love the table re-do. I wish I dare do that to mine. Thanks for sharing.
The table looks great! I have a terrible time with those tall tables and I am not sure why. I am very uncomfortable at them. I am 5'9" so I don't think it is a height issue. Good for you, getting frugal! You will be so happy that you did.
The table looks great, Denise. Good job and do use that wax.
I love it! Great job. I have to check out this wax stuff. I have been seeing it online. I have a table that I started redoing and stopped because it was wintertime and just to cold out in the garage. Maybe I will work on it in the fall.
