Cocktail of the Week

Often times on Friday night, Cheryl and I will share a glass of wine together and sample some new cheeses :-)  We’ve even made a whole night of it with her Mom and sister and sometimes our other neighbor AJ, and had ourselves a fun ‘wine and cheese tasting party’

Well, last Friday (actually it was the Friday before that!) I decided we would start a ‘cocktail of the week’ night. Of course it has to be Friday . . . . the end of the week, start of the weekend – what’s not to celebrate!  I thought I would surprise Cheryl and make a cocktail she had mentioned recently – A Bellini!

bellini

If you had asked me a few weeks ago what a Bellini is, I probably couldn’t have told you! For those like me, it’s very similar to a Mimosa (or Bucks Fizz as we call them in England), instead of orange juice and champagne it is Peach puree and champagne, and not just any champagne, a real Bellini is made with Prosecco, which is actually an Italian sparkling wine.  I found a simple recipe on Foodnetwork, you simply puree a can of peaches in heavy syrup and mix that with your Prosecco.  That’s not my picture up above because I forgot to take a photo of the ones I made.

Cheryl was nicely surprised and we decided we’d take turns and surprise each other each week (time allowing) with a different cocktail to try. Last week we didn’t really have time as we were busy getting ready for the craft fair – but this week? Hmmm, well I’ll just have to wait and see.

What about you? Do you have a favorite cocktail you like to have now and then? Tried any good ones lately? I know there are many fun ones to make for the Holiday season and I can’t wait to try a few.

Cheers!

Denise

What fun! I've never had a Bellini, but it sounds like it might be worth trying. I really like Prosecco.

My favorite cocktails are an Old Fashioned and a Cosmopolitan. I make a very good Cosmopolitan, if I do say so myself! Why don't you come here to Durham, and I'll make one for you? We could have a great time!

Have a wonderful weekend, Denise!

P.S. Your new blog design is very pretty!

Fun Denise! The photos are great of all of you. My favorite mixed drink is an Amaretto Sour. Yum, it tastes like a sweet dessert. I also love most wines and Guiness beer if you can believe it. Ha!

Have a good weekend!

I love your new header photo. I'm not much for mixed drinks but I do love a glass of wine with my dinner.

Your wine/cheese/etc. get-to-gether sure sound fun to me :) I love doing stuff like that with neighbors and good friends. How fun!
That drink sounds delish! I think I would like it.
We went to a wedding on the beach in CA a few weeks ago, and at the reception they served mango martini's. I wasn't sure I'd like it since I'd never had a martini...but let me tell you they were SO GOOD!!
Have fun tonight...can't wait to hear about what is served!

Not sure if it's technically a cocktail, but I love a Kir Royale. Yum. Anything with champers is a winner for me, although I am not a Bucks Fizz fan, and a Black Velvet seems just wrong to me - guinness & champagne, I'd rather drink both individually.

Love the idea of a cocktail night. Bill's not a fan, so there is no point. I'd just drink it all myself and end up with a walloping hangover!

Have a lovely weekend.

p.s totally with you about leftovers. Not Thanksgiving for me, obviously, but at Christmas I have to have leftovers so I can scoff a Leftovers Sarnie, which contains everything apart from gravy, and lots of bread sauce. ooh. Got a craving now!

Hi Denise! I have cocktail suggestions! My friend Irene from Rio de Janeiro told me about their national drink and then I tried one at Ventana Inn at Big Sur. It's called a caipirinha. You can google it. Another is the one Oprah made while camping. It's called Moscow Mule. Finally, a favorite for the holidays is a Pomegrante Margarita made with Poms juice. I see it as a health drink! ;) Enjoy the weekend! (((Hugz)))

Hi Denise, I am not much of a drinker since I am alcohol sensitive. On occasion I share a Margarita with my hubby. Other than wine for cooking, we don't keep any in the house. Just safer that way for all. Your setup does look really nice. I did enjoy a wine tasting with my sister. :)Love apples, grapes and cheese too! Have a great weekend. Hugs
