Beating the Heat!

I keep checking the weather forecast in the hopes I might see temps below 95 degrees, but it's not happening! The rest of this week and ALL next week, temps will be around 100-102 EVERY day!!!  This is the part of Summer I really don't like, but there's little we can do about it.

To stay cool we can either stay in doors or eat ice! Actually we can do both ;-)  I found this yummy recipe over at Ree's blog, The Pioneer Woman- perfect timing, considering we have all this to use . . .

As you can see our watermelons are not seedless, so I had to strain the juice, then you just add sugar and lime juice and put it in a glass dish and in to the freezer for about 3 hours.

Take it out and scrape the ice and return to the freezer for another 2 hours. Scrape again, and hey presto....

WATERMELON GRANITA!

Thank you PW!

Speaking of 'melons' we've also been successful with these guys this year . . .

Yummy Cantalopes. We've had quite a few of these already, in fact I think we've picked them all now - given some to the neighbors and munched on a few ourselves. They turned out perfectly.

Is it hot where you are? What are you doing to beat the heat?

That looks delicious! For us it's been a combination of the beach (it's about 10 degrees cooler on the south side of the island), and a/c. We've been cooling to low 80s at night at least. Hang in there!

its hot here - not has hot as where you are but 95 or so. Nothing to do but stay inside. Tonight I made choc chip muffins and cupcakes! trying to keep busy.

It's definitely hot here in Michigan, but not as hot as Texas. It was 97 degrees today. We are staying inside in the air conditioning or jumping in our swimming pool. :)

Hi Denise!! I keep wishing for the same thing. It is too hot. It is not usually this hot here until August, so I am hoping it doesn't get even hotter. :/
The watermelon yummies look so refreshing. I would love those.
Have a nice day and stay cool. Josh and I have just been staying in the house. ((BIG HUGS))!!

Oh yummy~
We spent a couple hours in the garden and we are now in the air drinking fresh raspberry tea.

Have a great day and stay cool!

Yummy! I must try this recipe. I have been pretty much staying inside as much as possible. It has been so hot that I have lost interest in my garden. I'm still waiting on my tomatoes. Maybe those will bring back my interest. Stay cool. Carla

Hi Denise! We're in the same boat - blazing temps here too! I'm just thankful that we don't have the humidity though.

What a yummy treat! The kids have been asking me to "squeeze some watermelon juice", so I know they would love this!

Your Saturday looked so fun! So glad that you are having a good summer. Hugs!

Your idea is very best for beating heat. Well, every major health organization recommends eating five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day to maintain health and take more liquid foods in daily diet.
