Menu Plan (and Met) Monday

(scroll down for Met Monday)

Now that I'm taking part in Mary's $75 Challenge, it's a must that I plan our meals for the week. If I'm planning them then I thought I would join in with Laura's Menu Plan Monday over at Orgjunkie.com and share my plans with you :-)

I wrote out my meal plan last Thursday because I am now going grocery shopping on Fridays. So here is what I'm making for this week (some of these recipes are from the new Simple & Delicious magazine out this month and are not shown on their website (you actually have to subscribe to the magazine to get access). However, to give you some ideas for meals, I thought I'd link my dishes to something similar and that way you can try something along those lines too - if indeed you're needing some meal ideas).

Monday - Shrimp and Zucchini w/Sundried Tomato Alfredo , Garlic bread

Tuesday - Sloppy Joes and salad (Tuesday is piano day so we don't get home until 5.30pm. I always want something quick and easy that night).

Wednesday - Easy Chicken Strips, green beans, Au Gratin Potatoes. (the recipe I'm making is from S&D using cornflakes(see pic) but I've linked to a good one from Ellie Krieger off Foodnetwork).

Thursday - Creamy Enchiladas & Salad (again from S&D magazine, it uses Campbell's mushroom soup with the beef , so here's a similar recipe from the Campbell's Kitchen site).

Friday - Pizza! Yes, nice and easy (I will buy a fresh made one from the grocery store, $6 and we'll probably have left over for Saturday lunch!).

Saturday and Sundays right now are up in the air. When the weather gets cooler I think I'll get out the crock pot on Sundays and have a yummy pot of chili or thick soup on the go. Saturdays are just a free day, I might cook, but then again I might not. Sometimes I bake and we just grab a meal as and when we feel like it!

I've been busy this week as usual doing some 'housey stuff'. Remember a few months ago I repainted the dining room ready for my sister coming, well it's still not quite a 'finished room'. It's been needing some new window treatments but I didn't know what I wanted up at the window. I had heavy curtains and valance up before which really blocked a lot of the light out and also hid the nice curve at the top of the window. I found a great idea from a blog (and I can't remember who's it was now, (oh, I remember now, it was at the Nester's Place! GO HERE to see her lovely window treatment).

I bought some matching material (to that in my kitchen) and simply sewed up two narrow panels (I actually cut the material in half, I didn't want fullness for this look). And I turned this. . . . .

empty looking window, in to this . . . . .

As you can see it's just a panel tied at the top, then hung on a hook in the wall (at least that's how I did mine) What I love about this look is that it doesn't stop any of the light coming in and you can still see the pretty curve at the top. It gives the room just enough of that 'lived in' cozy look that I wanted. The orange ribbon will not be staying, I'll be looking for something perhaps in gold at Hobby Lobby this week!

I still don't think the room is finished though. I need a buffet table or something on the wall opposite the window to serve food on and perhaps have shelves above it.

I'm linking this to Susan's Met Monday, over at Between Naps on the Porch.

Great menus. They all sound so yummy. I really like the drapes too, they give the window just enough. Hugs, Marty

your menu planning is far more detailed than mine. I just list Bill and Humbug then write what I plan to cook or make each day for them (I have whatever I can be bothered to do), then use it as a guide. The reason I do it this way is because Humbug is so young, she has slightly different foods to us, and I often never know when Bill will be home in the evening, so it's usually something I can prep and then reheat for him later. So it's a completely different situation, but I do like to have a plan each week. I know some people think it's tragic, but I like doing it. Makes life so much easier.

Your window treatment looks very nice. I need to think of something for the bathroom. We have a blind in the recess, but we left the slim curtain pole up outside the recess. I'm glad, because the window needs an extra something, but what I don't know. I need to go through my Shabby Chic books, see if I can get some inspirational ideas from there.

Have a lovely Monday.

:O)

will be posting later on. Got some gardening to do first.

HI Denise
We just returned from a small get away and thought I would pop in to see what you painted as you talked about on Facebook.
What lovely window treatments you made. They look simple but charming. I have no need to plan food out for a week since it's just Steve and I an he does not eat fish and I do so I have to fix two meals and we usually get leftovers through the week also. Back to your room a buffet table would be lovely and usable too as a server when you have company wish I had that over the China cabinet even though I need that because I have my gg grandmother's china in three from England it's over 100 years old now.
Have a wonderful Labor day. big hugs

Yummy menu planning. I need to do more of that. With no children at home you tend to do things differently..
Nice change in your window treatment is lovely! :) So simple and so cute..

Cool idea...or maybe I should say nifty (since I haven't used that word for a while...hmmm...or spiffy)...yes I need to expand. Anyways, I like that idea and I like being able to see the curve!! I often debate with myself about window treatments!! I like lots of light...but I don't want bare....I want homey....I like some privacy...it is hard combining all of that . BUT you have done a good job of it here.

I think the idea of a buffet table is wonderfull, but the shelves above would be awesome, if you get a buffet you have to put shelves above. Thing of the storage and the display options.
