Yesterday I took Kristen to the Little Gym for the first time in a long time! Long story short about that, we 'make' Kristen take piano lessons every week, something she keeps telling me she hates because I also 'make' her practice for 20 minutes a day! To which I reply "you'd hate anything that I 'made' you do - that's just the way kids are!" So the other day I asked her what she would like to do IF she could pick any 'after school activity', (because she has really never asked to do anything like sports or dance ) to which she replied "I liked it when I went to Little Gym" (we stopped going about 2 years ago). So, (as I said, long story short) I agreed to enroll her in Little Gym again because I think it only fair that she should have at least one thing that she looks forward to each week ;-) (I know, I'm such a nice mommy, ha ha) :-) We went for her first 'lesson' yesterday and she just loved it.
right next to the Little Gym is Barnes and Noble ;-) And yes, you bet I'm gonna wander around there for an hour while Kristen is having fun. Yesterday I got my first 'real' look (as in, I could actually see the inside pages) of Ree Drummond's most talked about cookbook! I know many of you know of Ree from her wonderful website The Pioneer Woman. If you don't know about it you really should check it out, especially if you like to cook, or if you love photography, or if you're a homeschooling Mom - she has all that and more at her site. Some of you have even been lucky enough to meet Ree as she traveled to book signings, bought your book and had it autographed - you lucky gals you ;-)
Well I haven't even bought the book yet.... but I'm gonna! After seeing the inside of this book, with all of it's beautiful photos, not only of the food she cooks (and step by step photos at that) but of her beautiful family, pets and animals too, oh my, I just HAVE to have it. THIS is the way ALL cookbooks should be (in my humble opinion). If it's one thing that I love to see in cookbooks it's photos, and lots of them, preferably one for every recipe there is, otherwise I just don't even want to try the recipe. But to have a cookbook that not only shows you the 'finished dish' but shoes you step by step photos of how to cook it.... that my friend is 'heaven' :-)
I don't know when I'll order it but it must be soon. I wonder if anyone is 'cooking their way through The PWC (Pioneer Woman Cooks) book? Now that would make for a fun blog too, don't ya think?
Still on the subject of books (cos you know how much I love 'em) I was thrilled to pick up this bargain yesterday....
Not long after I read Paula Deen's story "It Ain't All About The Cookin" I found out that Sandra Lee also had a book out about her story and how she found 'fame and fortune'. That was probably 2 years ago. My local library doesn't have the book in. I've always wanted to read it, just never wanted to buy it, until yesterday that is. I found this hardback in the clearance section of B&N for just $2!!! Whoo hoooo, so glad I didn't order that from Amazon for $17.96!
So much to read..... so little time. What are you up to today?

I've heard so many great things about that book. I love stopping by her blog/web site too, but sometimes I get overwhelemd just reading about all she does. I don't know how she does it..
Hope you enjoy the book when you get your hands on it!
I absolutely love this book. I cooked the lasagna from it on Monday and it was the best lasagna I've ever made. I use her cinnamon roll recipe too. Everything I make of hers is a hit.
Check out the tasty kitchen link on her blog as there are tons of good recipes on there too.
As for your friends comment, she does have a part time nanny, so she shouldn't feel too bad.
Hi Denise!
So happy you came by for a visit! I signed on to be a follower of your blog. I look forward to getting to know you!
Smiles,
Carol
HI there! Thanks for visiting my blog. You are RIGHT! Your little Boo and my little Harley look like brothers!
OMG! My Harley is 2 - our other Shih-Tzu is 3 and she is black and white.
In answer to your question - I am trying to do some homework today - class tomorrow. I am taking a photography class! This morning I spent 2 hours trying to figure out PhotoShop Elements and before that I did some crafting. I'm working on a Valentine Swap!
And of course the usual, laundry and housework in between.
Have a great day!
Karen
Some days are diamonds
I agree with the first poster....I don't know how PW does it all. I guess she never stops!
I love the cookbook but the only complaint I have is that it is read from top to bottom and not from left to right. That is kinda odd. The instructions go from top to bottom. Kinda confusing.
I want to make the chocolate sheet cake that is on her website. I think a blog about cooking our way through her book would be fun. We could pick a couple of things a week and cook them and then post a picture and talk about them.
One more thing to do. No wonder I don't ever get a book read or my magazines caught up:)
I agree. My favourite cookbooks are ones that have photos not only just of food, but of little displays and vignettes that appeal to me.
Hope you are having a good week :o)
The only thing on my Christmas list, this last year, was The Pioneer Woman Cooks. My parents gave it to me and I LOVE IT!! I have already cooked many recipes from the book. I love reading the book, looking through the pictures and creating the recipes.
You will love it, too!
They sound really good Denise!
I love PW's blog!
I'm having a fun giveaway if you would like to come by. :)
I've been wondering if that book was worth a closer look. Now you've got me interested!
I love the new pictures in your sidebar! You're a pretty woman. And you look so young! :)
Hi Denise! I agree about cookbooks with photos and esp nice if they have step by step photos! I have to hear more about the hamster... is he okay? Well, just sneaking in a quick hello while the 2 boys nap. I have the workers here installing lights, too. :) (((Hugz)))
Wow! $2 bargain--yippee! Gotta love it.
my mom bought me ree's book, i love it! she is pretty amazing. i love wandering around barnes & noble one of my favorite things to do when i have a few minutes to myself :) thank you for stopping by my blog! susan
Thank you for entering Denise!
I'm so happy you have had a good week of healthy eating and results!
I'm still stuck at the same plateau. Grrr...I have weighed the exact same weight for about ten days in a row. Sigh....:(
