Planting from the Past

I have nothing NEW to show you for Outdoor Wednesday so how about something OLD! I was looking through my photos on my computer and thought it would be fun to share with you some pictures of the very first watermelons we tried to grow.

Awwww, look at that precious princess :-) Kristen was only 3 1/2 at the time. We were renting a house in Maryland after just selling our first home - waiting to move to Texas later that summer. In April that year I decided I would buy some melon seeds and it would be a fun project for me and Kristen to do. I loved being a sahm and was always trying to think of fun educational things for me and Kristen to do. (these pics were taken April 2nd 2004)

The house we rented had a screened in porch on the back. First Kristen filled her little pots with soil.

Then she planted the seeds

And of course next you water them :-)

A few days later one little girl was super excited one morning when she discovered the seeds were sprouting!

a few more days later... even bigger!

Now fast forward a month to May 5th and look at our seedlings now! Oh, I just realized this is exactly 6 years ago today.... Cinco De Mayo!

Our seedlings are ready for planting.

and watering!

The big question now is "will the watermelons ripen before we have to leave for Texas in July - will they even grow at all? I guess that's two questions really. . . . . . . . Stay tuned to find out!

I'm also linking this to Marla's wonderful Woo Hoo Wednesday Feature :-) Drop by and see all the other wonderful participants.

I loved this post. Seeing Kristen at age 3 1/2 is just so sweet.

You can just remember what it was like to see their little faces when they were excited about something.

Can't wait to hear if it grew. I am guess yes. But I am not sure if they would be ready by the time y'all left.

Kristen had to love this project. I remember planting seeds and watching them sprout when I was a child. It is a thrilling adventure. Now you've got us hooked to learn the rest of the story.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Great post Denise. Loved reading about Kristin's experience. I can imagine her delight when she saw them sprouting through the soil. I still am excited when I see the same thing.

Thanks for sharing the memory.
Hugs!

Hey Sweetie!

Oh my goodness... that was the house you took us to see as you were in the process of moving into it, isn't it? Look how tiny Kiki was!! I can't believe we've known each other (face to face) that long. Holy Smokes!!

Sorry I've been MIA for so long. I do really miss you and wish we lived closer. Maybe I should convince Doug that with all his overtime he's doing he should bring me to Texas when he returns in the next few months. ;-)

Love you xoxo

So? Did they turn out? I snuck out of the house with my friend who was sleeping over and planted watermelon seeds we had saved from dinner and they actually grew. My dad mowed them over so we never got melons, but I'm sure we would have!! I was about 6.
