It's not totally finished, but I did promise you I'd share photos of Kristen's room makeover this week. I'm joining in with Marla again for a wonderful Woo Hoo Wednesday Party!
First off, when we moved in this house 3 years ago, Kristen's room was one of the first ones I decorated. She was only 6 at the time and decided on a jungle theme. Here's a picture of how the room turned out. It's really tricky getting a good photo of bedrooms, you can never stand far enough back to get it all in the shot!

Kristen was thrilled the night I finally revealed the room to her, complete with a cd playing jungle animal noises, and sparkling lights in the trees.

She couldn't stop jumping for joy on her new tiger rug :-)
So, fast forward 3 years to a 9 yr old who no longer wants a jungle in her room but a wolf den! Don't ask me why, but this girl of mine has a passion for wolves! She loves everything about them, brings library books home from school every week and reads more about them. . . . So, a wolf theme is what we did (and a change around of the furniture).

First you'll notice her bookshelves (from Ikea) in this corner. My plan is to move them to where the bed is, but first I had to paint that wall.

I left the top half blue and painted the bottom a color called 'painted turtle' by Olympic Paints.

Then I added a wolf border.

We moved the shelves to this wall and put back all the toys and books.

Next, it was time to paint the other side. This is where we would place the bed, only Kristen didn't want her bed (she's been sleeping on the floor with her wolves for weeks now!), she wants to sleep in a cave with her wolves! I still needed to put the border on but that night I put the mattress down ready for her to sleep on and try to 'arrange' some kind of canopy for her!

Not exactly how I wanted it, but she loved it :-)

Yesterday I re-did the canopy and added the border. The comforter on the floor is one I got for her bed but we've decided to use it as a rug for now. Look at all of those wolves, and of course she's named every one of them!

The post keeping the canopy up is a speaker stand! I will add some greenery around it to make it blend in better. I still need to add a wolf poster that I have (have to get a frame) and I plan on buying a 'dream catcher' to hang on the wall above the bed.

This is Kristen's little 'wolf display' she set up on one of her shelves!

WOO HOO - SHE LOVES WOLVES!

Ooooh, that's a very cool room! You are such a good mama - creating such a special place that suits Kristen and makes her feel comfortable... even though it may not be exactly what mama had in mind! Hee hee! Very creative! I love the trees, the canopy... and the 'pack' of wolves is awesome!
Wow! She looks thrilled! What a fun room to grow up in! Well done!
Enjoy!

Children grow and change so much. I think it is wonderful that you are going with her likes for the moment. She'll change again, but will always remember how fun this was. Her room is super. Hugs, Marty
That bedroom is incredible even complete with trees for the wolves!! I love it that she gets to pick her theme and you make her room into her dream come true. Woo Hoo!
Thanks for linking to Woo Hoo! Wednesday and joining the fun.
What a creative nice mom you are. How fun her room looks and what child wouldn't want to have such a wonderful place to retreat to. That is great that she has a love for animals even wolves right now, and not the same things you see over and over in girls rooms..Very nice. You have a great rest of the week.
Hugs,
Jolyn
beautiful! I love how you have decorated her room.
You are officially the coolest mom! She must be crazy happy!
I agree with Stephanie! Definitely the coolest mum of the year award goes to you. Way to show us all up! ;)
It's turned out really nice!
How fun for your daughter...my youngest (who is nearly 20) has a fascination with sharks. She can tell you anything you want to know about them. We never did her room in a theme like that but she probably would have loved it.
Happy Wednesday!
Lucky little girl! I bet her friends love to come play in her cool room!
What a fun room! Has she ever read the book Julie of the Wolves about a little girl raised by wolves? My girls read that book and went through a wolf stage of their own, although not quite that much. I love it! Carla
Denise, WOW, what a room! You are so creative! I love themed rooms and your turned out FABULOUS! I love how you have everything displayed and the trees next to the bed really add to the nature feel of the room...BRAVO!
Thank you for commenting on my woo, hoo post. Your comments were so sweet, thank you! *smile*
Congrats on your weight loss...that's wonderful. I must tell you that you don't look like you need to lose even one pound. You are gorgeous.
No, I haven't tried the skinny bagels, but I will definitely pick some up the next time I go to the store. Thanks for the tip!
Have a great evening! XO ~Liz
She sounds like quite the child! lOL I love that she is not afraid of wolves..maybe she'll grow up and do something really wonderful! Love her den and that she has named them all!
I have added you to my blog list :D
Oh how precious this is Denise! LOVE the colors and the cool wolf theme. I adore wolves too. Fascinating animals! :)
Denise, you got really creative and it looks great. I can not believe that she loves wolves! That is so funny especially for a girl.
I know that she loves her room.
What a great looking room. Kristen is probably so excited about what you created. Great work!
Hi Denise!
You are so creative!! I love how you decorate and what a fun room for K. :-)
That is so cool that she has this interest in wolves.
Have a lovely evening hun!
love you
xoxo
where on earth have I been this week? I've had so much to catch up with!
Firstly, love the tea stain on the lamp! :O) How I love dyeing with tea, it really does give the best pinky brown colour ever!
Secondly, Dear Lord, those Cinnamon Rolls! I bet the smell in your house was fantastic! They looks so good, I want one! I'm going to have to see if I can find anything remotely similar in Sainbury's on Saturday, because I am craving one now!
And thirdly, well done on the bedroom. Seriously, that's a briliant makeover. I mean, 'wolves' is not exactly the easiest of themes to work on, and I think you've done a fantastic job. I love that K has such strong ideas about her likes. I love that. She's always been like though, hasn't she? From what you've written in you blog over the years.
She is lucky to have a mum prepared to try out her ideas, and her room unique and perfect for her :o)
Glad you enjoyed my post. My peace was shattered today, when Dudley thought he'd try and see if he could get fed earlier. Not a chance! I was quite annoyed that he'd spoilt my quiet time, by bellowing about his belly. I tried to ignore him, and sat outside as usual, but could feel his beady eyes burning on me, waiting for me to walk back in so he could start his racket. Grr. Cats!
new furniture tomorrow! Can't wait! xx
Hi Denise! Such a neat room! It's wonderful that you have went so far to give Kristen her dream room. I must admit - I have to smile to think of this little girl loving wolves. Emily would faint away if I were to put a wolf anything in her room. :-) Although - if she were to see Kristen's room, she might give in just a 'wee' bit. :-) Loved both rooms Denise - the jungle on & the wolf one. Great job!! Hugs
it turned out great! how cute all her little wolves are! have you guys ever been to the great wolfe lodge? she'd love it! have a nice day!! susan
Hello Denise, I think wolves are very handsome and it is great that you did what makes your dtr. happy. You are a good mom. The room change turned out great. Just think in 3 more years she will want something totally different. sigh. They grow up so fast She is adorable.
Hugs, Jeanne
How utterly adorable and neato is that! My boys would love that in their room.
You are the best mom! She loves wolves, so you've made her a wolf room. Do you know how many moms would tell their kids that they're crazy for liking wolves and just decorate the room however the mom likes? I think it's awesome that you're so supportive. You are making huge deposits in her emotional bank account. And you're a great example to all of us!
Waa-Waa Denise...no new post! You know you can't do this to me after getting me hooked on visiting you here. :-) This is one of my absolute favorite stops! So now you have to do an extra long post tomorrow. Love you Denise...you are such a sweet friend! Hugs
That is so awesome! You are such a nice mom.
Hi Denise,
What a beautiful bedroom! My daughter loves wolves too and she would love this room!
Have a wondeful weekend!
Hugs and blessings.
Oh wow! What a unique theme for a room...it turned out so cozy, like she's on vacation, lol. :) Super job!
Also, you asked me for that carrot soup recipe. Its on the link on my post to southern living online. It is in their recipe section. I got my recipe out of their magazine but I think it's online there too! :)
Yoo Hoo! Denise....where are you??? Missing you girl! I know, I know...you have a life. :-) Love you Denise!
I love room transformations! Your daughter's "wolf den" is fantastic. Thanks for stopping by last week!
The room turned out well Denise. I love the fact that K is different and loves wolves instead of the usual "girly" stuff:) Good job. It must have been a little tricky to think up what to do with the theme.
