Indulge Me!

The garden is looking pretty much the same so I thought this week as I join in with 'Outdoor Wednesday' again, I would ask you to indulge me and let me show you a few pictures of home. The last trip we made as a family back to England was in July 2008. For those of you who didn't know me (or my blog) back then I thought you'd enjoy some scenes of my homeland.

My favorite part of going home (second to seeing the family of course) is going to the beach - weather permitting (which it sometimes/often doesn't!) . I was born and raised on the north east coast of England and we lived about 10 minutes from the sea.

Our beach is called Seaburn and I have happy memories of spending days here as a kid with my brothers and sisters and Mam and Dad. It was a thrill for me to take Kristen to that same beach and watch her play in the sand.

Despite the fact it is July, the weather is not always that warm and jackets and sweaters are required!
You better believe that water is COLD!

The other thing I loved about going to the beach when I was little, was the fairground right next to it :-) (see Kristen in the orange plane?)

A lot of the days are like this. . . .

very overcast and a little chilly. But that doesn't stop us from getting out and about and enjoying the sights. The above picture is taken at a lake near Penshaw.

This is Penshaw Monument. . .

It was built around 1844. If you enlarge the picture you can see the pathway leading up Penshaw Hill . We were going to climb up it (it's been many years since I walked up there) but rain clouds threatened, so we just stayed down below and fed the geese instead. Another day perhaps!

Not all days are overcast.... look we had blue skies when we went to the petting zoo :-)

Oh, but the clouds found us again . . .

then they got mean and turned grey :-(

But no matter what the weather is like, I still love going home to 'Blighty' :-) I hope you enjoyed the trip with me.

Don't forget to visit Susan and the other participants of 'Outdoor Wednesday'.

I enjoyed the trip 'home'...I love all the weather references...it definitely is a factor there! We took some pictures in Brighton one August and my friends in the states couldn't believe I was in jeans and a fleece on the beach in August. The great thing about the sea is that it is always beautiful, no matter the season.

Enjoy your day!

I enjoyed all of your pictures, Den. How fun to have grown up so close to the sea! I can tell your daughter is loving it as well. So it is true that it rains a lot in England!!?

Hope you are having a fabulous week! :-)

Oh, Denise, you must miss home. I've some acquaintances from Northumberland; I'm thinking you're from close by? I'm afraid my knowledge of geography of the British Isles is quite bad; please forgive me.

I've missed a few days around here. . . I just read about your latest venture in PW cooking. I may have to try that recipe, but a cup of whole cream? Oh, boy! I think PW's family probably gets more exercise than mine does, for she doesn't seem to have to worry too much about fat and calories!

Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Loved seeing those pictures again, D! Reminds me of my one and only trip to Scotland/England in '83. I brought 2 suitcases with me that July... one with summer clothes; one with warm "winter" clothes... never cracked open the summer clothes suitcase much to my horror.

Thanks for sharing "home" with us! Love you xo

Hi Denise! Thank you for taking me to your homeland! I really did enjoy the pictures. Does it make you homesick to see them, or is the USA feel more like home now? Not sure if you knew, but lived in England for 3 years, & I loved it.

I must tell you this Denise - no matter what you post about, you do it amazingly! I mean that with all my heart. My stop here is always a favorite. Have a wonderful day. Hugs!

England is a beautiful country. Our daughter spent a year there at the University of Newcastle and we got to visit her. We didn't get to the beach but she did... very different from our Gulf of Mexico beaches but lovely in their own way.

Denise, I love your homeland. I was fortunate enough to live three years in the North Yorkshire Dales and I can relate to the weather. With all that said about the weather there, it is one beautiful place. Thanks for sharing your country through pictures as well as your memories.

Love ya,
Cindy

I have to chuckle, I've just written a post and shown a photo of the raindrops on my window yesterday. Today is the total opposite and it's been sunny and *almost* warm! ;o)

England without rain during summer is just wrong! I love it :O)

I loved the trip. Such wonderful pictures. Looks like you had a lot of fun on all your adventures when you visited England. I love taking my boys to places I went to when I was little. Kristen Anastasia is a beautiful name for a beautiful little girl.
