Keeping it Real

I'm going to share some pictures of my kitchen with you today! I'll forewarn you now, they won't be 'pretty' pictures. Usually when I share them of my home it's when I've cleaned everything up, perhaps changed things around a bit or added something new, then I show off the pretty 'after' photos and I look forward to all of your ooohs and ahhhhs in the comments :-) But not today . . . today I'm keeping it real!

Remember I mentioned 'Flylady' last week, well I've started reading the emails I get sent and I'm taking 'babysteps' just like Flylady says. I want to do it this way because when I think of all the stuff I need to do to get this house in order and clean I really do feel overwhelmed, and as I said before I find that at the end of the day nothing really got done at all!

Flylady breaks your housecleaning down in to 5 zones and this week we are in zone #2 which is the kitchen. For the life of me I can't seem to keep this room clean and decluttered, but I'm gonna give it my best shot from now on. Our first mission on Monday was to 'Look Up' - set your timer for 10 minutes and clean away any dusties and cobwebs that we see, then clean the top of your fridge! I have to be honest I didn't see any dusties on my walls or ceiling so I went to look at the top of my fridge and I'm gonna share with you what I saw . . .

Arghhhhhhh! LOL, terrible isn't it - but I'm not ashamed because I KNOW I am not the only one that has a fridge top that looks like that (I added the smiley face just for you all before I took the pic) :-) This task took all of about 3 minutes, and look at the pretty 'after'. . .

Ahhh, much better. Shame only me knows how clean it looks though! (oh, and all of you do now too, so it was worth doing).

One of the very first things Flylady tells you to do is 'shine your sink'. You can see exactly how to do it if you CLICK HERE. I've been shining my sink all week. . . .

THIS is not acceptable any more:

THIS is:

I still have a long way to go but I'll get there one 'babystep' at a time - do you feel like joining me? Let me know if you find this motivating and I'll share with you next time how I tackle my 'hotspots' - the Flylady way of course!

Yep, that looks like my fridge..LOL!! I remember my co-worker telling me about shining the sink. Great thing to do. She does something in her bathroom too. I think you should keep sharing some of the things you are learning. It might help people like me..LOL!! Have a wonderful day Denise!!!

I admire you for being real! I am afraid to look at the top of my fridge. And I am actually afraid of Flylady!! She sounds like she would definitely not like me or my cleaning routine!!

Have a great week!

Good job D! Those black appliances sure don't hide much do they? It looks soooo pretty in the after picture. I'll have to take a peek at the top of my fridge and see what's up. Probably not too much since it's still pretty new - lol

Keep up the great job ;-) You're inspiring!!

Hugs xo

Denise, you made me laugh when I saw your smiley face on the frig top. :-) Yes, can't hide much, especially on black. I will admit, I rarely clean the top of my frig - it's something you just don't think about. I went to Flylady's website, but am going to go back & sign up for her emails. Thanks for inspiring me to do so. Love the things you share! Hugs

The flyulady does make you look into those scary places you forget about. One of her missions was to clean the blades of ceiling fans. You wouldn't think with the way they move so fast they would be such dust catchers! LOL at your smiley face! (((Hugz)))

Is THAT what the top of my fridge looks like? I haven't looked up there in quite a while. This was a very fun post. I know that might sound weird, but I get overwhelmed by everything I have to do, too.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi D,
Isn't it amazing how getting these little things done makes us feel so much better!? I love the Flylady philosophy of setting a timer and working on a spot for just a few minutes. That's the only way I can psyche myself into tackling my 'room of shame' -- the office/studio/sewing room -- which is my worst 'hotspot' ;-).
Bless you Friend,
G
