I was trying to take photos all weekend of my latest knit - a drop stitch shawl (which is now listed in my Etsy shop). It's so difficult taking good photos. I think when you're trying to sell something it's very important to get very good pictures, clear and closeup but I feel like I'm failing miserably :-/
I'm also busy right now trying to read my book for book club - the meeting is this Thursday. We are reading 'The Lace Reader' by Brunonia Barry, but it's not really my cup of tea. I'm already on to page 220 and no one has read a piece of lace yet! It seems to be more of a murder mystery story. I'm determined to finish it though, I always enjoy the meetings and of course now I want to know what happens in the end!
Speaking of books I've been looking at some that I can read with Kristen this summer. We went to Half Price Books at the weekend to look around. Kristen said she wanted a new book to read. Apparently she's been reading a lot at night before she goes to sleep and had finished a 'Pokemon' chapter book that she's had on her shelf for a while. She picked a book called 'Molly Moon'.
A few years ago I read Charlotte's Web with her. I'd never read it before but we both really enjoyed it. Ever since then I've wanted to try and read a classic of some sort with her now and then. We later read James and the Giant Peach - and after reading both books we watched the movies too.
Someone suggested 'Julie of the Wolves' a while ago for Kristen to read, so I'm ordering that today from Amazon. If any of you have any other books your kids liked to read, I'd love to hear about them. Or if you've read any good books yourself feel free to recommend them for me :-) I love talking about books and finding new ones to read. I thought of reading the Tales of Despereaux but Kristen told me last week that they'd just read it in class!
OK, with all that said I must confess I don't have much else to write about this week. It was a nice lazy uneventful first week of summer. I think this week I need to start writing notes down about what we do each day so I can write a little more on Sundays.
I'll be back tomorrow with a post about 'Hotspots' (courtesy of FlyLady) because Melanie won't have computer access until late Tuesday night so we are postponing our PW recipe until Wednesday.
Have a great Monday, and thanks for dropping by.

Thanks for the visit...love your shawl, very pretty! Have fun with the reading, summer time is a great time to do that! :D
Hi Denise!! The shawl is beautiful!! You did great as always!!
Ok, books. I am not sure what Kristen likes, but by the same author as Tale of Despereaux is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. I think you would both enjoy it if you haven't already read it. Also, Josh loved White Fang. I love children's books. I have read a lot of them for my classes and to Josh. Have fun!! We are going to the library today to get Josh another book to read.
Have a nice week!!
Love the shawl! so pretty!! keeping your things in mind for holiday gifts. Its never too early to start shopping for Christmas.
Denise I adore the lovely shawl! You look so pretty and happy in this photo. I really like your hair up like that. Very nice!
Have a great week. ~Melissa :)
My daughter liked The English Roses series at about 8/9. She loved the Allie Finkle books. And the Mallory series. These are all books your daughter could read on her own. I always try to find a summer book we can read together too ... hmmm, she reads constantly, but then when you try and think of the titles, they all fly out of your head! Hope she has a happy, book filled summer!
Hi Denise! Use google! What grade is Kristen going into? If 3rd grade, for example, google 3rd grade books (or 3rd grade books for girls) or even her age- books for 9 year old girls.... you will get tons of suggestions and many of them will be books they often read in class which will give her a jump on things. Island of the Blue Dolphins is a good adventure book for girls.
Lovely scarf and model! ;) Enjoy the week ahead! (((Hugz)))
Hi Denise! I love the shawl! So pretty, as is the model. :-) I also spied that pink necklace off to the right column, so I must go check that out. I love wearing pink.
Cici's is a place that Elliot & Emily love going to also. Mike 'hates' it, but I am okay with it, as long as it's not often. I had to smile as I read your 'like' for it. :-) Kids love that kind of stuff.
I think it's wonderful that you are reading with Kristen this summer. I am going to start reading A A Milne books to the children this week. I love Pooh, & I love the way he writes. I know they will enjoy it. I have them all, & have read them all. I bet Kristen will love the wolves book.
Have a wonderful week Denise. Sending you big hugs!
I am not sure how old your daughter is but my favorite series growing up was the Anne of Green Gables series set on Prince Edward Island. They are classics and I still like to read them. My mom read them aloud to my sister and I beginning about age 9 or 10. Highly recommend.
My girls also loved Where the Red Fern Grows and A Dog Called Kitty at about that same age. I have a million titles if you want more : )
Hi D, beautiful scarf!
Books your little might like --"Thimble Summer" and "The Penderwicks" -- good summer reads. Also, "Miracles on Maple Hill" is a sweet story about the healing power of love, nature, and friendship -- from the perspective of a 10 year old girl.
I just can't do book clubs -- I'm too picky about what I read and don't want to waste valuable knitting/reading time on something I don't like ;-).
Blessings,
G
You look so SKINNY! Wow. You look great and I like the scarf:)
