SUGAR COOKIES

Surprise! I thought I’d bring you a sweet little recipe from PW today! I know I said I’d take a break from cooking my way through her cookbook, that was back at the start of Summer, and I said I’d probably resume in September once school was back  . . . and yet here we are nearly half way through October and I haven’t posted anything.

That’s not to say I didn’t ‘cook’ anything. Over the past couple of months I did make a thing or two from her book, I just didn’t get around to posting. Yesterday Kristen and I baked cookies – there was no school because it was Columbus Day and one of our favorite things to do when we have time is bake cookies together. I hope Kristen has many happy memories of us doing this together, just like I have great memories of helping my sweet mam in the kitchen :-)

These cookies we actually made a few months ago (the ones we did yesterday are at the bottom of this post). . .

I let Kristen do all the measuring and just about everything on this recipe other than putting them in the oven and taking them out. . . . I thought they were a bit flat, come to find out later that she probably measured one less cup of flour!!!  They still tasted nice, very sweet and rather buttery, and as I would say very ‘morish’ – once you’ve had one, you just want more!  CLICK HERE for the recipe from PW’s blog if you want to try them.

Yesterday was a day off school and Kristen and I got to baking cookies again :-)  I recently bought a magazine called Harvest Baking, mainly for this recipe/idea – because I knew Kristen would love them . . .

They’re really just another sugar cookie dough recipe with orange rind and juice added in, and as you can see you color some of the dough yellow and some orange, the other 1/3 you just leave plain.

I didn’t take pictures while we were baking them, but you simply layer the dough in to a bread pan, first plain, then orange, then yellow and pop it in the fridge for a couple of hours. After that, take the dough out and slice it crossways (as if you were cutting it like a loaf of bread) then cut the slice in to triangles. They are rather small in size, just a bite size really. Once they’re cooked you pop them in a bowl of sugar to coat then let them cool. . .

I put some of these in a little bag each for Emily (and her little brother) and Connor, so Kristen could hand them out to them. But again, I forgot to take a picture!

The magazine is by Land O Lakes, here’s a link to the actual cookie recipe if you want to give it a go with your kiddies ;-) There’s even a video ‘how to’ at the bottom of this page.

What cute little candy corn cookies! I made some lemon lime and orange flavored ones a few years back, and these remind me of them. Now I have to go look for that recipe!

I am sad that I am not cooking with you again. I just can't do it right now. Maybe in a month or so, I can join back in.

I love the photos of KiKi making the cookies!

What great photos, I love the way Kristen looks serious on the photos, she's paying attention to what she's doing. The little candy corn cookies are so cute & they must be delicious.
It's a great idea to bake with Kristen, I'm sure she'll remember this time fondly when she grows up. Hugs

Hi Denise! I used jar alredo because I couldn't find refrigerated alfredo like the recipe calls for and I used regular, because there again I couldn't find light. I do however, have a recipe for alfredo sauce that I'm going to try next time instead of the jar stuff. Marsala is a cooking wine and I found it at Krogers.

What fun to cook with Kristen. Kalli and I used to that a lot when she was little. We still like to cook together but it's hard finding the time with her busy life!

Hope you are having a wonderful week!

Hugs and blessings,
Tracey

Hi Denise! Oh how I wish I could just reach in & grab a cookie! Well, it wouldn't be 'a' cookie, it would be a hand full. :-) What sweet memories you are making. I love my times in the kitchen with Emily. The candy corn cookies are 'so' cute!! Adorable!

Loved the pics of your getaway. So did you catch a fishie? :-) Love you Denise. Have a wonderful weekend!
