A stompin good time . .

I told you I would be making October a very special month for me!  Yesterday I did something I’ve never EVER done . . . I got in a barrel and ‘stomped grapes’! Real, live, fresh juicy grapes :-)

And as you can see, Kristen joined me.

As you know, I’m all in to wines lately, reading about them, tasting them, discovering I actually like reds ones too, so when I saw that a local winery was having their annual ‘wine stomp’ I just had to go along and give it a try. I thought it would be fun to take Kristen and Cheryl came along too and brought Connor. In hindsight it really wasn’t geared towards the kids, although their website kinda made it sound like it was, so that’s why we took them. Still, they didn’t turn us away and they let the kids stomp the grapes too (Cheryl didn’t stomp cos she said she’d tried it before).

Kristen loved it so much she didn’t want to get out of the barrel! You could buy a t-shirt and put your footprints on it with grape juice or you could bottle your own wine and make a custom label. I chose the bottled wine and had a picture of me and Kristen put on it.  It was a cabernet/merlot blend.

We were shown how to fill our bottle up and add the cork and the foil, then put our special label on it.

I’m seriously thinking that I might keep this bottle til Kristen is 21 and she can drink some with me! But I’m unsure if you can actually keep some wines that long? I know some reds get better with age and become ‘vintage’, but is that all reds? Or only a certain kind of grape. What if I keep it that long, then open it one day and it has spoiled. I don’t know enough about wine yet, perhaps I’ll ask the guy at the winery we went to last month for the wine tasting. We’re going again on Tuesday so that would be a good time to ask.

That’s not all we did yesterday.  Last night we went out to eat with our neighbors and some of their friends, to a German restaurant in Walburg, TX – it was Ocktoberfest with live ‘oompapa’ music ;-)

DSCF3377We sat outside at the ‘biergarten’ and had bratwursts and Weiner schnitzel  :-)

We’ve certainly had a fun weekend. Today I woke up with a bit of a sore throat and a very throbbing head (and no it wasn’t from drink last night, I was driving and had just a glass of wine when I got home). The sore throat has gone and I’m just taking pain relievers and Sudafed today because I think it’s just allergies playing up.  Jason and I are just taking it easy today and having a lazy afternoon watching tv. Kristen is out front playing with her friends.

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend

Denise...what a wonderful weekend - so much fun! I loved the photos! I think it's so great to celebrate 'you' all month long, & I hope you do.

My Dad died of lung cancer too - I was 15 when he died. I know you miss him. I always wish that my Dad could have known my children, & known me as an adult.

What a cute video of Boo on his birthday! I loved hearing your voice. It somehow makes someone more 'real'. Did Boo want the candle? :-)

Have a wonderful week Denise. Please share all the special things you come up with to celebrate your birthday month. Hugs!

It looks like you guys had looks of fun! I too like wine. A winery close by has some very different types of wine. One is called Harvest spice which has some cinnamon in it. :)

Now how fun is that!!! Grape stompin and a custom wine bottle to boot. That is adorable.

I love wine tasting so I'm always up for any activity at any of our Oregon vineyards.
