I finally got around to doing a project this weekend, one that I had in mind for a few weeks now, ever since I saw this at Hobby Lobby. . .

My insprition! Here's another one, the shade and base a slightly different shape (I took these with the camera on my phone) . . .

I have 3 lamps I bought that came in a set but the shades were boring old white! I've been wanting to do something with them for a while. I forgot to take a before picture so I found one from a few months ago when I was showing pics of my newly decorating living room and kitchen . . .

The lamp I was redoing was the tall one over in the corner on the left, but notice I have a smaller one on the side table too (I'll be redoing that one soon, but not exactly the same) . . .
So, while at Hobby Lobby that same day I bought some leopard print material and some trim, then I first cut a template using some large brown paper I have on a roll, by laying the lamp shade on it and rolling it round as I followed the outside edges with a pencil . . .

next I cut out the material using the template, adding a little for overlap . . .

and then the tricky part, I chose to use spray adhesive to stick the material to the shade... a rather tricky and sticky thing to do, but eventually I had this. . .

next for some trim,

and voila. . .

my Hob Lob inspired lamp :-) Not quite finished because I'd like more trim for the top which I hope to get today. I just guest at the amount I needed (probably bought a yard) and it fit exactly around the bottom not even having to trim a bit off!
I don't think the lamp will stay in that place, I have ideas to move a few things around - I'll share them with you when I do. SO, what have you been up to this weekend?
I'm joining Susan at
Between Naps on the Porch today for Met Monday. Hop on over to see what everyone else has been up to.

Looks great! I haven't ever worked with that sticky stuff.
Love it!! Can't wait to see what you do with the little lamp...

I love it! I love taking something pain and dressing it up! Keep us posted on what you do with the other one! Carla
Your lamp shade turned out gorgeous. What a great idea. Love it. I really need to redo a lampshade too. You make it sound easy. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Marty
What a great new personality your lampshade has. I have never tried the spray adhesive but it looks like it works well. I have used the trusty glue gun but haven't been so happy with the results. Can't wait to see the next one. Stella
Denise that is soooo pretty and looks good in your room! I just adore all animal prints. You did a fantastic job on it.
Happy Spring! ~Melissa :)
cute, i just love anything leopard...
I love the redo! Looks better than the inspiration from HL.
Weekend? I added a touch of spring to my front porch. Photo'd all my new designer purse finds from the Goodwill of late, did a bit of blogging, cooked up my Yummy Easy Chicken Pot pie ...laundry, dishes and a bit of relaxing. LOL
Denise, what a great looking lamp! I love the things you create - you can tell that home is where your heart is. I look forward to seeing future posts of what you are going to do with the smaller lamp. Have a great week. Hugs!
Love your lampshade. You did a great job. Can't wait to see what other projects you got in the hopper.
Hugs,
Cindy
Your lamp is every bit as cute as the one at Hobby Lobby! I am going to save this --there are lots of possibilities! Thanks!
I love all of the beautiful pictures of your home! Your decorating style is so delightful!

I think that's lovely. You did it really well. I love making lampshade covers, it can help lift the whole room with very little cost.
I'm actually working on a ruffly one at the moment. Can't stop making ruffles!!

p.s the 'My Patch' sign came from Sainsbury's, they are pretty good at whimsical stuff for kids' gardens, as are Asda. The photo of Gingerbread Garden was taken two summers ago, it's the only one I could find. I wanted to take one as it is now, but I need to dig it over first.

That's so cute! I've been wanting to try re-covering a lampshade. You make it look easy. I like the idea of making a paper patter, because I don't think there's any way I could get it right by just going at the fabric with scissors. Thanks for sharing your method!
